Bioneer subsidary AceBiome, signs a joint research agreement with Denmark-based Bactolife

AceBiome, a subsidiary of Bioneer, has signed a joint research agreement with Danish biotechnology company Bactolife. The collaboration aims to advance research that supports gut health and overall wellness through innovative bio-material technologies.

AceBiome has built strong scientific credibility and consumer trust through its functional probiotic strain for body fat reduction, Lactobacillus gasseri (L. gasseri) BNR17®, and its flagship brand BNRThin. With over 20 years of research, accumulated clinical data, and proven market validation, the company has established leadership in the fields of weight management and probiotics. AceBiome continues to expand its portfolio with a variety of health functional foods that feature diverse functionalities.

Bactolife, headquartered in Denmark, is a biotechnology company recognized for its innovative Binding Protein technology, which is grounded in solid scientific evidence. The company has attracted investment from major global institutions including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Novo Holdings, and Athos. Recently, Bactolife secured approximately €30 million (about KRW 51.4 billion) in a Series B funding round led by Cross Border Impact Ventures and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO), to accelerate clinical development and technology commercialization.

Through this partnership, AceBiome and Bactolife plan to conduct joint research focused on comprehensive health solutions, particularly emphasizing gut health as a central aspect of overall human well-being. The collaboration seeks to leverage the expertise of both companies to develop new bioactive materials and explore broader global market opportunities.

Bactolife’s Helm™ Binding Protein is a novel food ingredient with broad functional potential, including gut health benefits. It also holds promise as a meaningful alternative in addressing the global public health challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), as it may contribute to efforts aimed at reducing antibiotic use.

Sebastian Søderberg, CEO of Bactolife, stated that he is pleased to collaborate with AceBiome, a trusted market leader in the Asia-Pacific region. He added that combining Bactolife’s Helm™ Binding Protein technology with AceBiome’s advanced probiotic expertise marks an important step toward exploring new applications for Binding Protein technology in the health and nutrition sector.

Myeonghee Kim, CEO of AceBiome, noted that Bactolife is a research-driven, science-based company recognized globally for its bio-material technology. She said this partnership represents a valuable opportunity to co-develop next-generation health materials by combining Bactolife’s Helm™ Binding Protein technology with AceBiome’s microbiome research capabilities. Kim added that AceBiome will continue to strengthen its position in the global market through continued innovation and development of new materials.
